Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 5 is a limited cask-strength release from Glengyle, the Campbeltown distillery resurrected in 2004 by the family owners of Springbank. Where standard Kilkerran is lightly peated, the Heavily Peated series uses barley peated to Islay-like levels on Springbank's own floor maltings, bottled young and at full strength in small numbered batches that sell out within weeks.
Bottled at 115.4 proof (57.7% ABV), non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, Batch No. 5 delivers dense peat smoke, bonfire ash and coastal brine on the nose with honey and orchard fruit beneath, then a rich, oily palate of smoked malt, sea salt, black pepper and vanilla, finishing long, savory and thoroughly smoky.
