Arturo Lomelí Ibarra founded Mandala in 2016 with Humberto Ibarra and José Joel García Barreto in the Los Altos highlands, with a mission to make a tequila worth savoring and a bottle worth keeping; the Día de Muertos series began here and has run most years since, painted by local artisans. Inside the 2021 edition is the Añejo: 100% mature highland blue Weber agave, cooked in traditional brick ovens, double-distilled, aged more than a year in oak, and bottled at 40% ABV in the limited painted ceramic; check your bottle for the edition's details. Expect a nose of cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak with dried fruit, opening into a smooth, rounded, sweet palate of butterscotch, oak, and baking spice with a warm finish.
