Orphan Barrel Castle's Curse is a 14-year-old single malt from Teaninich, the rarely bottled Highland distillery founded in 1817 on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, released through Diageo's Orphan Barrel project, which hunts forgotten casks in the company's warehouses. Nearly all of Teaninich's fruity, grassy spirit goes into blends, which makes an official single malt bottling like this a genuine curiosity.
Drawn from selected casks matured in European oak and bottled at 94.8 proof (47.4% ABV), it offers tangerine, poached pear, sweet confectionery and dried herbs on the nose, then a semi-creamy palate of red apple, orange zest, cantaloupe, vanilla, oak, mint and baking spice, finishing short to medium with lingering fruit. One More Dram found it true to Teaninich's approachable, fruit-forward profile. Presented in the series' storybook packaging, it is a collector's bottle for fans of hidden distilleries.
