Padre Azul Blanco Tequila

Padre Azul is the tequila an Austrian schnapps heir built after falling in love with a woman from Guadalajara — H.P. Eder, whose family makes Vogelbeerschnaps in the Tyrol, launched it in 2016 with his Mexican father-in-law to bring 100% agave tequila to Europe, in a bottle wrapped in hand-woven leather and topped with a 270-gram metal Day of the Dead skull. The name comes from the Mexican expression qué padre — how fantastic — and azul from the blue Weber agave; it's made at Tres Mujeres, NOM 1466, in the lowlands of Amatitán, where master distiller Jesús Partida Meléndez oversees the process by hand. The Blanco is 100% lowland blue Weber agave, slow-cooked, double-distilled, and bottled unaged at 40% ABV in the leather-laced, skull-topped bottle. Drinkhacker reviewed the Silver and noted you can't get far without discussing the packaging — a white leatherette getup laced up the back like a lucha libre mask. Expect a nose of cooked agave, citrus, and a sweet floral note, opening into a smooth, soft, gently sweet palate of agave and vanilla with an easy finish.
