Ransom Old Tom Gin The Geezer is the extra-aged edition of Ransom Spirits' pioneering Old Tom Gin, the Oregon bottling that helped revive the style in 2008. Where the standard Old Tom rests a few months in wine barrels, The Geezer matures for three to five years in toasted French oak, and it is bottled at 44% ABV (88 proof). Ransom calls it a tribute to the patience and independent spirit of the geezers they admire.
Ransom describes rich aromas of incense cedar and orange oleo saccharum set off by exotic cardamom and teak, then caramel, biscuit malt and lemon pastille on the palate and a honeyed, resinous finish like spiced baked goods. Years in oak push it toward whiskey territory while the malted-barley base and botanicals keep it a gin, which makes it the ultimate Martinez or gin Old Fashioned, and a fascinating neat sipper.
