Rogue Farmhouse Gin
Rogue Farmhouse Gin is the current name for Rogue Spirits' original Spruce Gin, made in Newport, Oregon, by the distilling arm of Rogue Ales, founded in 1988. Master distiller John Couchot, a former chemist, created it in a 150-gallon copper pot still with fresh Oregon spruce tips, 100 pounds of hand-peeled cucumbers per batch, and nine other botanicals including ginger, grains of paradise, angelica, coriander, orris, lemon, orange and tangerine, with no chemicals, additives or preservatives. It is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
It opens with fresh juniper blossom and subtle citrus, then fruity-yet-dry cucumber and tangerine that transform into a distinct spruce finish. The recipe has won a Double Gold at the 2009 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Platinum and Best in Show at the 2012 World Beverage Competition. Try it in a Martini, a Southside or a Gibson, where the cucumber and spruce shine.
