Salcombe Gin Start Point
Salcombe Gin Start Point is the flagship London Dry from Salcombe Distilling Co., set on the waterfront of the Devon sailing town of Salcombe and named for the lighthouse point at the mouth of the estuary. Thirteen botanicals include Macedonian juniper, English coriander seed, red grapefruit, lemon and lime peels, orris root, licorice, angelica root and green cardamom, and it is bottled at 44% ABV (88 proof).
Drinkhacker rated it a B+, describing a traditional London Dry with earthy angelica and juniper on the nose, then lemon peel, fresh-cut grass and cardamom adding complexity on the palate, with juniper carrying through a lengthy finish. Salcombe suggests the classic serve of a G&T with a wedge of ruby grapefruit, and its citrus-forward balance also makes a bright Martini and a lively Tom Collins.
