St. George Dry Rye Gin
St. George Dry Rye Gin is unlike almost any other gin: it is distilled from 100% malted rye in a 1,500-liter copper pot still at St. George Spirits in Alameda, California, with 50% more juniper than the distillery's other gins plus black peppercorn, caraway, coriander, grapefruit and lime. The result is a spicy, malty, juniper-heavy gin with a whiskey-like backbone, bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
The Gin Is In gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 and highly recommended it, describing warm hay and malted grain with a yeasty brewery note, herbaceous juniper and lime zest on the nose, then beer schnapps and white-whiskey character moving to aniseed, cracked pepper and citrus before woody juniper, caraway and grain dominate an aquavit-like finish. It excels in a Negroni or a gin Manhattan and is excellent neat. A genever-meets-rye bridge for whiskey drinkers curious about gin.
