St. George Dry Rye Reposado Gin takes the Alameda distillery's Dry Rye Gin, distilled from 100% malted rye with a heavy hand of juniper, black pepper, caraway, coriander, grapefruit and lime, and rests it in French and American oak wine casks that previously held Grenache rosé, Syrah and Tannat from Blacksmith Cellars. It emerges with a copper-pink hue and is bottled at 49.5% ABV (99 proof).
St. George describes robust malt character with piquant spice and a suggestion of stone fruit, malty and oaky with a fleeting note of dark fruit. The base Dry Rye Gin earned a perfect 5/5 from The Gin Is In for its aquavit-like grain and juniper depth, and the wine-cask rest rounds its sharp edges into something that sits squarely between gin and rye whiskey. The distillery recommends it in classic rye drinks: an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan, a Hanky Panky or a Martinez, and it pairs beautifully with sherry or umeshu.
