Volcán Blanco Tahona is the house's 100%-valley, stone-crushed blanco — Tequila Report calls the distillery one of the cleanest and most beautiful in Jalisco, and says the liquid has depth to match the bottle. Volcán de Mi Tierra is Moët Hennessy's tequila — a 50/50 partnership with the Gallardo family of Jalisco — made at Agrotequilera de Jalisco, NOM 1523, in Huaxtla at the foot of the Tequila volcano, where a field out front is planted half with valley agave and half with highland to show visitors the difference. The Blanco Tahona is 100% lowland blue Weber agave, slow-roasted in masonry ovens, crushed by a volcanic-stone tahona rather than the standard Blanco's mill-and-tahona blend, fermented, double-distilled, and bottled at 40% ABV in the tall, sleek bottle, additive-free — no abocantes. Master of Malt reviewed it and quotes the house's refusal to use caramel, glycerin, or oak extract. Tequila Report: the valley agave brings a mineral spice to the finish, and the tahona defines it. Expect a denser, oilier nose of cooked agave, wet stone, and green herbs than the standard Blanco, opening into a full, mineral, peppery palate with the tahona's weight and a long, spiced finish. Honest note: the enthusiast's Volcán — the LVMH bottle for the drinker who buys Fortaleza and Cascahuín, and the way to taste what the stone does. Neat, in a copita. Volcán, stone-crushed.
