Yuzugin Japanese Gin
Yuzugin is made by Kyoya Shuzo, a shochu distillery in Miyazaki Prefecture on Japan's southern island of Kyushu, on a base of its own sweet potato shochu fermented in traditional terracotta jars. That base gives the gin extra body and a touch of sweetness, balanced by bright, tart local citrus: yuzu plus hyuganatsu and hebesu, two rare fruits grown almost exclusively in Miyazaki, along with sansho pepper, ginger, coriander, cloves and juniper. It is bottled at 47.3% ABV (94.6 proof).
