Elegante is Partida's extra añejo aged a minimum of forty months — the top of a house InsideHook calls the single malt of tequilas. Gary Shansby, the marketer behind Famous Amos and Vitamin Water, founded Partida around 2005 with Sofía Partida, whose uncle Enrique Partida farmed 5,000 acres of agave in Amatitán; the brand is made at NOM 1502 in the Tequila valley under master distiller José Valdéz from estate agave grown ten years. Elegante is 100% estate blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in steel ovens, distilled twice in stainless stills, aged more than forty months in oak — the house says a minimum of forty-eight — and bottled at 40% ABV in a decanter with a dark amber, high-density pour that announces the age, additive-free. Sip Tequila: toasted oak, dark chocolate, coffee, and ripe banana on the nose, then cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, bourbon, almond, black pepper, and orange flower, with a spicy, warm, round finish. Cocktail Wonk notes review samples are scarce at this price. Expect a dense, silky palate of cocoa, caramel, toasted nut, and oak with the estate agave still audible and a very long finish. Honest note: an additive-free extra añejo from a single estate — for the whiskey drinker and the collector, priced for four years of wood without a decanter markup on top.
