Elyx is Absolut made the slow way — on a 1921 copper column still that's operated by hand. Every drop comes from winter wheat grown on a single estate, Råbelöf, which has cultivated wheat in Åhus, Sweden since the 1400s, and everything from seed to bottle happens within a fifteen-mile radius. Where standard Absolut is made continuously in stainless columns, Elyx gets its final distillation in the vintage copper still with thousands of copper packets used sacrificially to strip unwanted compounds — what Absolut calls copper catalyzation — and it's bottled at 42.3% ABV, a touch above the norm, with no added sugar. It was named Best Vodka and took Double Gold at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Absolut describes it as liquid silk: a nose of fresh bread, white chocolate, light cereal, and mellow spice, then a full-bodied, luscious palate of macadamia, creamed cereal, and buttery baked bread, finishing warm and rounded. The Daily Pour found it lightly sweet but not overdone, with vanilla, gingerbread, and sweet cream on the finish, and virtually guaranteed everyone would find it agreeable.
