Blackberry Farm is a Relais & Châteaux resort in the foothills of the Smokies in Maryville, Tennessee — one of the most celebrated culinary destinations in the South — and its brewery's Oxheart Stout is an imperial stout with a Belgian twist, fermented with Kölsch yeast and lightened with candi sugar. Bardstown Bourbon Company sent a custom blend of Kentucky bourbon into those barrels for 17 months. This late-2024 Collaborative Series release is a four-part blend of 100% Kentucky bourbon aged 6 to 14 years: 45% Bardstown's own 6-year estate distillate (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley), 25% an 8-year at 53/26/21, 21% a 14-year at 78/10/12, and 9% a 14-year at 75/13/12, with the full breakdown on the label. A limited run of just 10 barrels, released only in Kentucky and Tennessee — which makes finding it in California a genuine score. Breaking Bourbon found it heavily influenced by the stout barrels from start to finish: chocolate powder, chocolate malted barley, vanilla, cocoa nibs, aged oak, and green peppercorn on the nose, then chocolate mousse, chocolate stout, vanilla bean, dry oak, malted barley, oat, faint marshmallow, and a sprinkle of rye spice — a delight if you like chocolate stout, with the various chocolate notes playing off one another. It follows Bardstown's Founders KBS and Goose Island Bourbon County stout finishes in a series that also partnered with Foursquare, Amaro Nonino, Silver Oak, and Amrut.
