Cristal is the brand's entry-level white: molasses-based rum run through multiple passes on a five-column still, aged one to five years in ex-bourbon barrels, then charcoal filtered and blended down to complete clarity. Reception among reviewers is honestly mixed. Difford's Guide found it clean and light-bodied with cracked black pepper, pineapple, passion fruit, and burnt sugar, calling the finish long and dry. Spirits Review went further, praising caramelized molasses, cinnamon, and oak notes as "outstanding compared to other Puerto Rican rum." The Lone Caner landed in between, calling it "completely serviceable" and a small step above Bacardi's white, though ultimately content to disappear quietly into a mixed drink rather than stand out. Other tasters were less convinced, with one detailed independent review calling it a disappointment with an oddly neutral, vodka-like finish, and another specifically dinging the burn as harsher than its smoothness elsewhere would suggest.
