Stags' Leap Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is the standard Napa Valley bottling from Stags' Leap Winery — distinct from both the winery's own Limited Edition Reserve and, importantly, from the similarly-named Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (the 1976 Judgment of Paris winner, now owned by the Antinori family of Tuscany, founded by the late Warren Winiarski). Stags' Leap Winery has been growing grapes in Napa since 1872, and Wine Enthusiast's Jim Gordon has reviewed multiple vintages in blind tastings: the 2020 he described as deep and brawny, full-bodied, with toasted oak, blackberry, and grilled sage aromas leading into blackberry, blueberry, and black olive flavors shaded by cocoa and espresso, calling it best from 2028 to 2040; the 2021 he found earthy with cocoa powder aromatics over ripe black fruit, lengthy, robust, and full-bodied, with powdery-fine tannins and persistent acidity. Bottled around 14.3% ABV. A consistently well-made, food-friendly Napa Cabernet from a historically significant estate.
