Contratto Aperitif Liqueur 1L
Contratto Aperitif is a bitter aperitivo from Contratto, the Piedmont house founded in Canelli in 1867 and famous as Italy's oldest sparkling wine producer, now owned by the La Spinetta winery. Made from a 1930s recipe, it is built on a base of Italian brandy and infused with 28 botanicals, including bitter orange peel, rhubarb root, aloe, hibiscus, nettle, ginger and juniper, colored naturally with carrot and beet rather than dye. Bottled at 13.5% ABV in a generous 1-liter bottle.
The nose is vibrant bitter orange and sweet spice. The palate opens with a gentle bitterness in the classic Italian style, then unfolds into complex sweetness from the botanicals and brandy, finishing long and satisfying. Serve it with prosecco and soda for a spritz, over ice with tonic, or in place of Aperol or Campari in a lighter Negroni. An all-natural aperitivo from one of Piedmont's great names.
