Daviess County French Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Daviess County takes its name from the western Kentucky county on the Ohio River where the original Daviess County Distilling Company was founded in 1874; by the early 1900s nearly 20 large distilleries operated there. The brand passed through several owners and was relaunched by Lux Row Distillers of Bardstown in February 2020. Its signature is a blend of two separate bourbon mash bills, a wheated bourbon and a traditional ryed bourbon, which gives the whiskey four grains in total; head distiller John Rempe describes the smooth wheated bourbon and the spicy ryed bourbon coming together for a balanced profile. This version takes that blend and finishes it for six months in French oak barrels. It is bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV) in an embossed-shoulder bottle with a natural cork. Drinkhacker found a doughy, pastry-shop nose with fresh cream and baking spice, and a palate of buttered toast, butterscotch and honey with gentle spice. A bourbon to sip neat or with a splash of water.
