Daviess County Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Daviess County takes its name from the western Kentucky county on the Ohio River where the original Daviess County Distilling Company was founded in 1874; by the early 1900s nearly 20 large distilleries operated there. The brand passed through several owners and was relaunched by Lux Row Distillers of Bardstown in February 2020. Its signature is a blend of two separate bourbon mash bills, a wheated bourbon and a traditional ryed bourbon, which gives the whiskey four grains in total; head distiller John Rempe describes the smooth wheated bourbon and the spicy ryed bourbon coming together for a balanced profile. This is the core Daviess County, a Kentucky straight bourbon with no secondary finish, bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV) in an embossed-shoulder bottle with a natural cork. Drinkhacker found traditional barrel char with green, herbal rye notes and a touch of menthol on the nose; brown sugar, caramel, flambéed banana and graham cracker on the palate; and almond, light chocolate and peppery spice on the finish. It is the base for the Cabernet and French oak finished versions, and a versatile pour on its own, neat or in an Old Fashioned.
