Hella Cocktail Co. was founded in 2011 by three friends, Jomaree Pinkard, Eddie Simeon and Tobin Ludwig, brought together by a shared love of gathering and craft cocktails, and the company remains proudly minority-owned. Everything in the Hella range is made from real botanicals rather than extracts or artificial flavors, and the Aromatic is the house's take on the classic bitters every bar needs. Hella builds it on the traditional aromatic backbone of cinnamon, clove and Jamaican allspice, then adds depth and a kick from black peppercorns and caraway. Wormwood and gentian root carry the bitterness, giving it a prominent, complex bitter finish that lands drier and more assertive than the mass-market aromatic bitters most bars default to. That extra structure is what you want against aged spirits: a few dashes make an Old Fashioned or Manhattan taste more finished, work in a Sazerac alongside Peychaud's, and hold their own in rum-heavy tiki drinks and punches. It's also worth trying a dash in soda water with lime as a low-proof refresher, or in a Champagne cocktail with a sugar cube.
