Los Azulejos is a 100% agave tequila made at Casa Maestri, the Destiladora del Valle de Tequila (NOM 1438), drawing on agave from the lowlands of the Tequila Valley in central Jalisco. The brand's tequilas are cooked in stainless steel ovens, milled with a shredder-roller, and double distilled in stainless pot stills. The Skelly Collection brings together two pillars of Mexican culture, tequila and calaveras, taking its inspiration from Día de Los Muertos and the tradition of honoring ancestors. Each bottle is a hand-painted clay skull made by Mexican artisans, and on this Añejo the skull wears an intricate mariachi hat; to pour, you lift off the top of the skull and serve from the neck. The Gold Edition is the gilded take on the design, and because each piece is finished by hand, no two bottles look exactly alike. Inside, the añejo rests 18 months in oak before bottling at 40% ABV. The published notes describe a nose of cooked agave, pepper and anise, a palate of sweet savory notes balanced by zesty, peppery vegetal character, and a smooth finish. It's a sipping añejo that doubles as a display piece long after the bottle is empty.
