Porter's Tropical Old Tom Gin comes from Langstane Liquor Company in Aberdeen, Scotland, where the Porter's team cold-distills its signature botanicals on a rotary evaporator at low temperature to keep them fresh. This lightly sweetened Old Tom pairs a classic juniper, coriander and angelica base with cold-distilled passion fruit, guava and white tea, 13 botanicals in all, each distilled individually and blended. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
The Gin Is In found bright ripe pineapple and piney green juniper on the nose, a smooth palate of orange-blossom honey building to dried papaya and florals, and a finish where orange and neroli ease into honeyed white tea. The reviewer noted it is only gently sweet and suggested treating it like a contemporary gin: superb with tonic or soda, or in a tropical Martini. Summer in a glass from the north of Scotland.
