The Dalmore King Alexander III commemorates the moment in 1263 when an ancestor of the Mackenzie clan saved the Scottish king from a charging stag, earning the twelve-point stag that still adorns every bottle from the Highland distillery founded in 1839 at Alness. Master distiller Richard Paterson created it by marrying malts of different ages from six different cask types, an unprecedented feat of blending.
Matured in French wine casks, Madeira drums, sherry butts, Marsala barrels, port pipes and Kentucky bourbon barrels, and bottled at 80 proof, it is layered and opulent: red berries, citrus and rich sherried fruit on the nose, then a silky palate of vanilla, crushed almond, orange, cinnamon and toffee with the fruit of the wine casks weaving throughout, finishing long and elegant.
