The Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey is the flagship of a brand with roots in 1762 and a name borrowed from a racehorse: in 1876 the Watt family's colt The Tyrconnell won the National Produce Stakes at 100-to-1, and the distillery put him on the label. Revived at Cooley Distillery in County Louth, the modern Tyrconnell is made from 100% malted barley, double distilled, matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof).
It is a light, elegant single malt: floral and fruity on the nose with honey and a touch of spice, a creamy, smooth palate of dried fruit, vanilla and subtle malt, and a light, refreshing finish. It drinks well neat or with a drop of water, and it makes a delicate highball.
