Corsair is one of the pioneers of the modern American craft distilling movement, founded in 2008 by childhood friends Darek Bell and Andrew Webber, who started out homebrewing in Bell's garage. The first distillery opened in Bowling Green, Kentucky, followed by Nashville in 2010, and in 2016 the company moved its headquarters to the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood of Nashville. Corsair made its name on experimental whiskeys, including buckwheat, quinoa and smoked malt bottlings, and it racked up more than 800 medals along the way, including Craft Distillery of the Year from the American Distilling Institute in 2014 and American Whiskey Distillery of the Year at the 2017 Berlin International Spirits Competition. Rum has been part of the lineup since the Bowling Green days. Corsair Spiced Rum starts with a pot-distilled, molasses-based rum, which is then infused with spices, vanilla beans and citrus peel rather than built on artificial flavoring.
