Disco-Nut is the glitter coconut rum from Dented Brick Distillery in South Salt Lake, Utah, a distillery run by Kentucky-trained distiller Marc Christensen on land once owned by Hugh Moon, the pioneer whiskey maker Brigham Young ordered Mormon settlers to buy from. The distillery ferments with mineral-rich water from its own on-site artesian well and runs a custom Vendome copper still, and its rum program has become known for a line of glitter rums in mango, passion fruit, pineapple and this coconut version. Disco-Nut starts with a light rum made from sugar cane molasses sourced from the US Virgin Islands, which is blended with real coconut syrup and food-grade edible glitter before bottling, giving it a pearlescent, shimmering pour that swirls when you tip the bottle. It is bottled at 50 proof, in the same sweet, low-strength range as Malibu, with a soft, light body and a tropical-fruit aroma. The product was developed in partnership with the Utah Pride Center, and a portion of proceeds from every bottle is donated to the organization. It is built for mixing: piña coladas, coconut mojitos, rum punch and pineapple-juice highballs all pick up the shimmer along with the coconut.
