Ancho Reyes Chile Ancho Liqueur
Ancho Reyes is the original Mexican chile liqueur, made in Puebla from a recipe that dates to 1927. Ancho chiles, which are ripe poblano peppers dried in the sun, are hand-selected, macerated for six months in cane spirit and blended with sugar and spices, producing a liqueur that brings real chile flavor, warmth and smokiness rather than just heat. Bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The taste opens with a rich, complex warmth, followed by sweet spices, cocoa and a subtle acidity, and finishes with the pleasant, smoky heat of the ancho chile. It has become a bar staple: add it to a margarita for a spicy version, stir it into a mezcal Old Fashioned, use it in a spicy Paloma or a Bloody Maria, or sip it neat after a meal.
