The 25 Year is Arran's oldest core-range age statement, and it carries real historical weight: it includes some of the distillery's very first production, filled in 1995, the year Lochranza became the first legal distillery on the Isle of Arran in over 150 years. That makes this one of the first of Scotland's new-wave 1990s distilleries to reach genuine maturity. It's matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks — roughly 65/35 — then re-racked into first-fill and refill sherry hogsheads for a final 12 months before bottling at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered with no added color. Only around 3,000 bottles are released worldwide each year. Expect rich oak and gentle nutmeg on the nose over baked figs, sultanas, and black cherries, with fresh cherry, cranberry, and pear syrup underneath. The palate brings fruitcake, toasted almond, and cinnamon, with juicy orange and mandarin zest mellowing into manuka honey, muscovado sugar, baked apricot, and a white pepper lift. The finish runs creamy and spicy with dark chocolate, walnut, and dark fruit compote. The Dramble called it elegant and dainty, praising how the distillate's fruit-forward profile holds up at this age.
