Bedford Park 13 Year Fiji Single Barrel Rum
Bedford Park is an independent rum bottler that releases single casks from the distilleries collectors chase: Hampden, Foursquare, Caroni, New Yarmouth, and Fiji's South Pacific Distillery, always non-chill filtered with no additives. This is Fiji rum distilled in 2012, matured 13 years in a once-used bourbon barrel, most of that time in the UK, and bottled at 61.7% ABV with an outturn of 241 bottles. South Pacific, in Lautoka, is the only distillery on Fiji and makes pot-still rum from molasses that has earned a cult following for its high-ester, tropical, funky style; independent bottlers have been the main way Americans get to taste it at full strength. Bedford Park released this cask as a counterpart to their 19-year Fiji from 2004, and their own note is that the younger distillate carries a lot more funk, the rawer and more powerful side of Fiji. Cask strength, so a splash of water opens it up considerably. Label art is by Toronto artist Elise Conlin, whose illustrations run across the Bedford Park range. With only 241 bottles, this one will not be restocked.
