Dead Reckoning Australia (Beenleigh) Rum
Dead Reckoning is the label of Justin Boseley, Australia's first independent rum bottler, and this Australia release comes from Beenleigh Distillery, which has been making rum on the banks of the Albert River in Queensland since 1884. Beenleigh ferments locally sourced molasses for 48 to 72 hours and distills on both copper pot and column stills. Distilled in 2014, this rum spent nine years maturing in ex-bourbon American oak before Dead Reckoning bottled it at cask strength, 55% ABV, with no reduction to a standard proof. It is a limited release, bottled in 2023, and the RumX community rates it 7.8 out of 10. Tasters on RumX describe dry wood, raisin, pear and black pepper spice on the nose and palate, with dried fruit, cinnamon and herbal notes and a long, warm finish. It's a bottle for rum collectors and anyone exploring beyond the Caribbean. Pour it neat and add a few drops of water to open it up.
