Dead Reckoning South Pacific (Fiji - Muscat) Rum

Dead Reckoning is the Australian independent bottler founded by Justin Boseley, and this South Pacific release is its Fijian rum: distilled at South Pacific Distilleries in Lautoka, Fiji, from a marriage of column and pot still spirit, then aged ten years in Fiji's tropical climate, where evaporation took roughly half the cask before bottling. The cask is the point of the release: a forty-year-old barrel that previously held muscat wine, sourced from a winery in New South Wales, which gives the rum a raisined, dessert-wine edge over the funky, mineral base Fijian pot still spirit is known for. It is bottled at 47% ABV with no added sugar, color or flavoring. Published tasting notes describe dark fruits, figs, raisins, cinnamon and raspberry on the nose, a lighter mouthfeel carrying figs, raisins, cinnamon and pear on the palate, and a shorter finish of pear, cinnamon and figs. Dead Reckoning built its reputation in Australia and Europe with single-cask bottlings from distilleries collectors chase, and only recently started sending releases to the United States, so this is one of the few age-stated, wine-cask-finished Fijian rums you can actually find here.
