Kasama is a Filipino rum founded by Alexandra Dorda, whose father created Belvedere and Chopin vodkas and whose mother is Filipino; the name means "together" in Tagalog, a nod to the two heritages built into the bottle. The rum is made from the fresh-pressed juice of noble sugarcane grown in the Philippines, not molasses, and is aged seven years in American oak barrels that previously held bourbon, maturing in the tropical heat of the islands. It is then shipped to the Dorda family's distillery in Poland for bottling and packaging before coming to the U.S. It is bottled at 40% ABV, and Dorda says there are no additives, sweeteners, or flavoring, so everything in the glass comes from the cane and the barrels. Despite being a cane-juice rum, it doesn't have the grassy funk associated with rhum agricole: reviewers describe it as smooth and gently sweet, with pineapple, banana, and caramel, and the nose adds creamy coconut, soft vanilla, and a hint of sweet wood.
