La Maison & Velier Flag Series Fiji 2012 Rum
This is a single cask of Fijian rum from South Pacific Distilleries in Lautoka, the only rum producer in Fiji, bottled by La Maison & Velier for its Flag Series as a USA exclusive. La Maison & Velier is the partnership between La Maison du Whisky in Paris and Luca Gargano's Velier in Genoa, and the Flag Series picks single casks from different rum-producing countries and vintages and bottles them at full cask strength, with no additives and no filtration. This cask was distilled from molasses in a pot still and bottled in 2024 at 64.9% ABV, and only 238 bottles were filled, in the 700ml size used across the series. For years nearly all Fijian pot-still rum reached drinkers through independent bottlers rather than the distillery's own label, and it built a devoted following among collectors for its high-ester house style: solvent and glue, burnt rubber, and tropical fruit such as pineapple, overripe banana, and apricot. At this strength, taste it neat first, then add water a few drops at a time to open it up.
