Backbone Big Bash American Whiskey Blend

Backbone Big Bash American Whiskey is the most ambitious blend yet from Backbone Bourbon Company, the Indiana producer behind Bone Snapper Rye and Backbone Uncut. Backbone spent most of 2022 building it, experimenting with more than 25 finishing barrel types over three years, from sherry, Port and rum casks to Islay Scotch, imperial stout, amaro, Grand Marnier, añejo tequila and even banana brandy barrels, and then blending straight rye and straight bourbon from those experiments into one whiskey.

The name comes from the way all those flavor profiles crash together into what Backbone's blenders called a big party in the bottle. Bottled at 110 proof in a hand-labeled, patriotic bottle, Big Bash shows a touch of fruitiness and a balanced, slightly exotic sweetness over toasted oak, caramelized sugar and rye spice, with a velvety, lingering finish. Whisky Advocate reviewed Batch 1, and it has become a favorite of drinkers who like finished whiskeys with something unexpected going on. A fun bottle to pour blind for whiskey friends.
