Mount Gay Single Estate #2, edition 24_02, is the second release in Mount Gay's estate rum project and the first single-vintage bottling in the series. Mount Gay bought back 324 acres of the original Mount Gay Estate in St Lucy, Barbados, the distillery's home since 1703, and now grows its own sugarcane there; where the first edition blended the 2016 and 2017 harvests, this one comes entirely from the 2018 harvest, a warm, sunny season on the estate. The cane was fermented for nine days, distilled fully in copper pot stills, and aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, all in St Lucy. Master blender Trudiann Branker said what makes it different and special is that it comes from just one year of harvest. It is bottled at 55% ABV (110 proof) in a 700ml bottle, limited to 5,418 bottles worldwide with 1,200 for the US. Mount Gay's notes describe a light golden rum with a complex nose of bold citrus and sweet fruit, and a palate of brown sugar, oak, grapefruit, and floral notes with a slightly salty smokiness, plus hints of plum, banana, spice, almond, sea salt, and milk chocolate.
