Caffo Amaretto Fratelli d'Italia is the almond liqueur from Fratelli Caffo, the family distillery founded in 1915 in Limbadi, Calabria, at the toe of Italy's boot. The name means "Brothers of Italy," and it was created as a tribute to Italian emigrants so they could carry a piece of home wherever they went. Unlike most amaretti, which rely on crushed apricot kernels, Caffo's is made from 100% estate-grown Sicilian almonds macerated in a herbal infusion. Bottled at 30% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The taste is pure, toasted almond with subtle black cherry and a medley of confectionery baking spices, less cloying and more genuinely nutty than mass-market amaretto.
