Caffo Limoncino dell'Isola is the Calabrian answer to limoncello from Gruppo Caffo, the family distillery founded in 1915 in Limbadi. Where Amalfi limoncello uses large Sorrento lemons, Limoncino is made from small, intensely flavored Calabrian lemons whose peels are macerated in spirit to draw out their oils, then blended with sugar and water. It is the natural pale-yellow color of fresh lemonade rather than neon, because nothing artificial is added. Bottled at 30% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The taste is zesty, real lemon peel with a balanced sweetness and a clean, bright finish that packs an exceptional citrus punch. Serve it ice-cold from the freezer after dinner, pour it over ice with soda water, top it with prosecco for a lemon spritz, or add it to a gin sour or a lemon drop.
