Caffo Maraschino Qualità Superiore Liqueur
Caffo Maraschino Qualità Superiore is a cherry liqueur from Gruppo Caffo, made at the Distilleria Friulia in Udine, in Italy's northeastern Friuli region, near the historic home of maraschino. It is distilled from the Marasca cherry, the small, sour cherry of the Adriatic, and unlike many maraschinos it emphasizes the dark, ripe, succulent side of the fruit rather than the floral, marzipan character. Bottled at 30% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The nose is opulent cherry with hints of violet and freshly baked shortbread. The palate is bright and vibrant, capturing the full Marasca profile with sweetness balanced by pleasant tartness and a subtle astringency that adds complexity. It is an essential in the mixologist's arsenal: the Aviation, the Hemingway Daiquiri, the Last Word and the Martinez all depend on it, and it is lovely over ice or in a cherry spritz.
