Caffo Vecchia Grappa is the aged grappa from Gruppo Caffo, the family distillery founded in 1915 in Limbadi, Calabria. It is distilled from selected grape pomace in traditional copper stills, then patiently aged in oak barrels, which turns the clear spirit a warm amber and softens its edges. Bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The nose is dried fruit, toasted nuts, vanilla and soft spice. The palate is rich and velvety with honeyed grape, oak and subtle caramel over a delicate herbal undertone, and the finish is long, mellow and gently warming, showing the harmony between fruit and wood. Serve it neat at room temperature as a digestif, the way it is poured in Italy after dinner, or alongside dark chocolate or a cigar. A refined grappa for those who find the unaged style too sharp.
