Vecchio Amaro del Capo Red Hot Edition is the fiery variation of Italy's best-selling amaro, made by Fratelli Caffo in Limbadi, Calabria. It starts with the original recipe of 29 Calabrian herbs, spices, roots, fruits and flowers, including sweet and bitter oranges, tangerine, chamomile, juniper, licorice, anise, mint and hyssop, harvested at peak ripeness and macerated immediately. Fresh Calabrian chili peppers, hand-picked from July to September, are infused in neutral grain alcohol and blended in, then the whole rests for 20 days. Bottled at 35% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The nose is orange, anise and cinnamon. The palate unfolds from orange, gentian, star anise and candied ginger into a wave of spicy cinnamon with bergamot, lime peel and cacao, and the chili heat is perfectly calibrated: warm and moreish, never punishing.
