Imperial is the crown of the Don Fulano range and a genuine landmark in aged tequila. Blended from tequila aged a minimum of five years — with components as old as twelve — it matures entirely in French oak barrels sourced from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, and Napa before a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks from Spain, a European-inflected approach Enrique Fonseca developed after studying distillation in Scotland and France. Like everything from the family's La Tequileña distillery (NOM 1146), it's built from 100% estate-grown highland agave, verified additive-free, and bottled at 40% ABV. It was named Tequila of the Year at the London Spirits Competition with a 93-point score. Expect coffee bean, old leather, tobacco, toasted nuts, and a lavish black cherry aroma, opening into a deeply rich palate of dried apricots, stewed cherries, figs, clove, cardamom, maple, toffee, and dark chocolate — all without losing the sweet agave spice underneath. The finish is long, velvety, and exceptionally soft. Agave Matchmaker tasters call it an exceptional extra añejo with layer after layer of flavor.
