Efe Classic Raki

Efe was the first private-sector raki distiller in Turkey after the state monopoly on raki ended in 2004, and it has since grown into the country's second-largest distiller, producing around 15 million liters a year and exporting to more than 30 markets. In 2005 Efe released what it describes as the first raki distilled only from fresh grapes, and it later introduced Kara Efe, billed as Turkey's first raki distilled three times in copper alembics. Efe Classic brings those two ideas together: it's a blend of the triple-distilled Kara Efe with traditional raki, made from grape spirit redistilled with aniseed. Raki is the national spirit of Turkey, and it's served the traditional way: poured into a tall glass and topped with chilled water, which turns it from clear to a milky white (the Turks call it lion's milk), then sipped slowly alongside a spread of meze such as white cheese, melon, grilled fish and spreads.
