Gold Cock 10 Year Single Malt Whisky
Gold Cock is the Czech Republic's oldest whisky brand. Production began in 1969 at the Těšetice distillery near Olomouc, with the first release in 1973. In 2006 the brand was bought by Rudolf Jelínek, the Vizovice distillery best known for its plum brandy, which was officially founded in 1894 on roots going back to the 16th century. Jelínek moved production to Vizovice and relaunched the range in 2013 and 2014. The 10 Year is made from Moravian two-row spring barley malted at the Bruntál malt house and only lightly peated, to around 10 PPM. It's fermented with distillers' yeast and slowly double distilled, and it was the first Gold Cock expression run through the distillery's modern Arnold Holstein stills. It then matures in new, heavily charred barrels of European winter oak coopered in Čejkovice. It's bottled non-chill filtered at 49.2% ABV, a nod to Vizovice's latitude of 49.2 degrees north. The distillery describes the nose as full and fruity with woody accents and slight sweetness, the palate as sweetish with wood and fruit, and the finish as warm and long, with jam and a subtle hint of plum.
