Holmes Cay's Edition No. 1 is the New York independent bottler's first single-origin blend, selected together with the Rumcast podcast and the master blenders at E&A Scheer, the Amsterdam rum brokers. Every drop comes from South Pacific Distilleries in Lautoka, the last remaining distillery in Fiji, and because it's all from one distillery but mixes still types, it's classed as a single blended rum. The blend marries unaged pot still rum with column still rum that spent two years aging tropically in Fiji, both distilled from 100% molasses. There's no age statement, and that youth is the point: the young pot still component puts the cane and the distillery's character ahead of the barrel, showing more terroir than oak. It's bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, with no sugar, coloring or other additives, in keeping with Holmes Cay's approach across its range. The published tasting notes describe a fruity, ester-driven nose of banana, burnt sugar and oatmeal raisin cookie, a palate of clove, honey and treacle, and a finish of toasted Tellicherry peppercorn and papaya.
