Doc Swinson's Limited Edition Lost Nectar Ex-Solera Rum
Doc Swinson's is a non-distiller producer based in Washington state, founded in 2017, that sources bourbon from MGP in Indiana and finishes and blends it at its own facility in Ferndale. Lost Nectar is a by-product of one of its more ambitious whiskeys, the Alter Ego Solera Method Straight Rye. To build that solera, the brand needs barrels that have held rum, so it blends and ages rum in-house in ex-bourbon casks, with the specific goal of seasoning those barrels before rye goes into them. The Solera Rye's rum casks are described as having held rums aged five years or more from Trinidad, Venezuela and Jamaica. Once the barrels have taken on the rum's character, the rum comes out and the rye goes in. Customers kept asking where that rum went; Lost Nectar is the answer, a limited bottling of the rum that left the solera barrels. That makes it a rum shaped by bourbon wood and built in a whiskey house, and a natural companion bottle to the Solera Rye it helped create. Pour it neat, over a large cube, or in a Daiquiri.
