El Pintor Joven Tequila
El Pintor is a series of what its makers call "author agave spirits," created by maestro tequilero Guillermo Barroso Arnaud, and the Joven is the tequila at the heart of the range. It starts in the highlands of Jalisco with private-estate blue Weber agave harvested at a minimum of eight years old, and the spirit is distilled twice in a 100-year-old copper pot still. Instead of resting a whole batch in wood, Barroso Arnaud builds the Joven as a blend: fresh blanco married with an extra añejo that spent three to four years in ex-bourbon barrels. The long-aged component adds depth and roundness while the blanco keeps the highland agave bright and forward, and the brand positions the result as lighter than most reposados but with more body and flavor than a blanco. That middle ground makes it a tequila for sipping neat or over a single large cube, and it is an excellent upgrade in a Tommy's margarita or a tequila Old Fashioned where you want agave and a little oak in equal measure. El Pintor also makes a mezcal ensamble in Yautepec, Oaxaca, under the same label.
