Gustoso Aguardiente Artisanal Blanco is an unaged Mexican cane spirit from Michoacán, distilled from 100% sugar cane grown in the fields in the eastern hills of Uruapan. Uruapan sits at the center of Michoacán's cane country, the region best known for charanda, the local cane spirit that carries its own appellation, and Gustoso comes out of the same landscape and tradition of small-scale aguardiente. Aguardiente, literally 'fire water,' is the old Spanish-language name for a cane spirit distilled close to the farm, and in Mexico it covers a wide range of rustic, small-batch cane spirits. Gustoso keeps this one as a blanco, bottled unaged at 43% ABV (86 proof), so the cane itself does the talking. The producer describes it as herbal and fruity with good balance: soft cane on the nose framing orchard and tropical fruit, a fruity palate with a touch of spice, and a finish where soft fruit and spice linger.
