Stagg is Buffalo Trace's uncut, unfiltered barrel-proof bourbon, the little brother to the Antique Collection's George T. Stagg and simply Stagg since the Jr. was dropped in 2022. Batch 26C is the third and final release of 2026, bottled at 124.6 proof, 62.3% ABV, the lowest-proof Stagg of the year after 26A's 129.3, which tends to make for a more approachable pour without giving up the density the brand is known for. It is distilled from Buffalo Trace's low-rye Mash Bill #1, the same recipe behind Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare and E.H. Taylor, matured in the distillery's Frankfort rickhouses, which Buffalo Trace currently lists at about eight years, and bottled straight from the barrel with no chill filtration. Artfully Bourbon's review of 26C found cooked dark cherry, cherry pie filling and charred oak up front with grape, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla and cocoa underneath, a thick, syrupy palate of dark cherry, barrel char, clove, baking spice and black pepper that drifts into molasses, bitter chocolate, leather and tobacco, and a long finish of clove, pepper, toasted oak and tobacco, scoring it 8.5 out of 10 and calling the proof warming rather than overpowering.
