Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is named for the Blackpitts area just behind the Teeling distillery in Dublin's Liberties, once home to some of the largest barley malting houses in Ireland. It is Dublin's first peated single malt in decades: barley dried over peat smoke, then triple distilled, which strips away the medicinal edge of Scottish peated malts and lets a sweeter barbecue-smoke character come through.
The whiskey matures in ex-bourbon and ex-Sauternes white wine casks, an idea borrowed from the Teeling 24 Year Old that was named World's Best Single Malt at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards, and is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration. Expect soft smoke, honey, apricot and vanilla with a long, gently smoky finish. It is a whiskey for peat fans who want something different from Islay, and it makes a fine smoky highball.
