The Glenlivet XXV is the classic presentation of the 25 Year Old, the oldest expression in the core range from the distillery George Smith founded in 1824 as the first licensed distillery in the Livet valley. Using some of the rarest whiskies in the distillery's warehouses, all aged at least 25 years, it is batch-produced and finished in ex-Oloroso sherry butts, with each cask individually selected and monitored so the sherry-soaked wood adds only the subtlest tones to an intense, silky and elegant whisky.
Bottled at 86 proof, its molten amber color is nearly as splendid to hold as it is to drink. The nose drives whisky lovers to distraction with bittersweet dark chocolate and plump, sweet sultana, then a velvety, elegant palate of orange, dried fruit, toffee and gentle spice, finishing incredibly long, rich and balanced. Presented in its handsome wooden case, XXV is a sublime choice to mark special occasions and a collector's piece now that the packaging has changed.
